Top Ten NFL Teams 2010
64NFL 2010
It's the midway point of the 2010 NFL season which means everyone is starting to show off their true colors. It's a time where each football teams' strengths and weaknesses really become more and more evident week in and week out, and now it's time to make some NFL power ranking predictions.
I'm going to start off with who I believe is the best football team in the national football league and work my way down the top ten list. And we will see if my NFL power rankings are even remotely close to the actual outcome at the end of the NFL 2010 season.
Best NFL Team
Jets Defense
Tom Brady
NFL Power Rankings (1- 5)
1.) Pittsburgh Steelers:
Why do I pick the Steelers as the number 1 team in the national football league?
Despite coming off two mediocre games against the Miami Dolphins and the New Orleans Saints, I think the Pittsburgh Steelers have a great football team. The Steelers have a top notch defense, a top 10 running back with an even better offensive line, and they have a Big Ben at quarterback.
Pittsburgh has shown that the team can win football games without Ben Roethlisberger under center. What does this equate to? They are resilient. The Steelers simply know who to win.
2.) Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have a solid team on both sides of the ball. Notice I said solid and not great. I believe the Ravens aging defense has declined over of the years, but they still have at least one more go in them.
As for the offense, I believe Joe Flacco is a very talented quarterback, but he still needs to mature in the NFL. It might take him some time, but with the acquisitions of both Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmandzadeh, it's hard to overlook that potent aerial attack.
3.) New York Jets
The NY Jets are a fiery crew who have managed to beat some good football teams despite some unfortunate circumstances such as injuries and suspensions.
If the Jets don't have the best defense in the NFL, then they are certainly among the top when fully healthy. Offensively, they have a great receiving attack and Ladainian Tomlinson seems to be back to his former running self.
My only concern is their quarterback. Mark Sanchez is young and is still making poor decisions down the field. In all fairness, Sanchez did start off great not throwing an interception in the first 5 games of the season. However, the last two games he's thrown four picks and only has one touchdown. Sorry Mark, you are a liability at best and he's the only reason I don't have the Jets at number 1 or number 2.
4.) New England Patriots
Oy, the New England Patriots...Every year New England seems to climb up the NFL power rankings like a slithering snake ready to pounce on it's prey. I don't quite get it because the Patriot's defense is suspect and their running game is absolutely nonexistent.
However with Tom Brady at helm, the Patriots are one of the best passing teams in the national football league (with or without Randy Moss). So, as long as their defense holds their ground, then the New England Patriots are always in the position to win.
5.) San Diego Chargers
After a rocky start it appears the San Diego Chargers have finally stepped up to the plate.
Phillip River's 2010 passing numbers are so ridiculous that it almost makes Michael Vick's Monday night performance against the Redskins look like a walk in the park. Rivers may be the best there is with or without his best receiver Antonio Gates.
The Chargers definitely round out my number 5th spot!
Packers
Atlanta Falcons
Matt Ryan
Peyton Manning
Drew Brees
NFL Top Ten ( 6-10)
6.) Green Bay Packers
Although the Packers began the season with a rough start, Green Bay has certainly melded into the football team everybody was projecting at the beginning of the NFL season.
Aaron Rodgers has emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the national football league, and from a statistical vantage point (especially for fantasy football leagues) Rodgers is consistently ranked number 1 or number 2 in the power rankings. Additionally, he has two prolific receivers in Donald Driver and Greg Jennings.
And although Ryan Grant went down with a season ending injury, the Packers running attack is still capable enough to keep the defense in check.
With such a high-flying juggernaut offense, the Green Bay Packers can shred apart any opposing defense.
Mark my words, watch out for Green Bay in this 2010 playoffs. They may be 5-5 and just lost the Atlanta Falcons (whom I rank 9th) In my opinion, the Packers are the best team in the NFC.
7.) Philadelphia Eagles
The high flying Philadelphia Eagles have a spectacular offense and a solid defense to boot.
With Michael Vick behind center, it is difficult for opposing defenses to decide whether they should defend the run or the pass. It's really a duel edge sword because Vick will hurt you no matter what you decide.
The rest of the offense which includes speedy players such as Mccoy, Jackson, and Maclin are built to score from anywhere on the field. In short, they may be the fastest, most explosive team in the NFL.
8.) Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons have a high potent offense that can methodically move the football down the field. Atlanta's offense represents the classic 80's and 90's look of a great quarterback, a top rated running back, a star receiver, and pro bowl tight-end.
Matt Ryan has emerged as one of the NFL's finest quarterbacks and his room for potential is off the charts good. One great sidenote here, Matt Ryan has only lost one home game since becoming the Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback. That's pretty impressive.
Going along with that potent offense is a solid defense that is great against the pass. The Falcons only misstep is their run defense, however, they seem to be picking it up over the past few weeks. We will see!
9.) Indianapolis Colts
Much like the New England Patriots, the Indianapolis Colts have a mediocre defense and an average running attack. However the Colt's passing attack is just awesome.
Granted, Peyton Manning just came off one his worst performances against the San Diego Chargers throwing a season high 4 interceptions, but if there's one thing I've learned it this...never count Peyton Manning out.
10.) New Orleans Saints
The Saints are marching in...Another 2009 juggernaut that had a rocky 2010 start, the Saints are now starting to look like the Superbowl champs. At times it may not be pretty, but at least they are starting to do what they do best...win.
With Drew Brees and company, the Saints are definitely a force to be reckoned with. Do they have a repeat Superbowl team in them...probably not. But that's why they play the game.

drej1511, how would you revise your list heading into the playoffs? Somehow, I'm thinking tjat the New England Patriots might move up a notch or two. A revision of your list would be interesting.
Great hub!
I love football, especially the NFL. Awesome review and look back. Voted up and awesome Chris. Take care.

How mi oh my .. first of all Jets D at this juncture is not number one... Rex isnt concerned as he is confident that too will change in Dec :) "The Steelers simply know who to win" I think you may have typo there as it is the Jets who no matter what have pulled out the winning games, and yes Sanchez is young and at times he makes what looks like immature moves, but he is the new Clutch player of the league . .just keep watching and you will see what I mean. I know you have heard this before and you will be hearing till we get to Dallas .. * J*E*T*S ** J*E*T*S ** J*E*T*S :)
